« on: March 21, 2012, 07:44:37 PM »
hi all,im 36 and after much hesitation visited my doctor after suffering depression for at least the last 15 yrs.im 36 now and decided enough is enough,im awaiting an appointment from my psychiatrist but have been prescribed seroquel 25mg twice a night until my next visit.
my problem is after reading the side effects its kind of put me off taking them.
i really dont know what to do and was hoping some 1 out there with a similair experience could help me.many thanks simon.x

Welcome to the forum tidybut. Even though all these meds have side effects, if they work then the benefits outweigh the downsides. Give them a try, you can always ask your GP or psychiatrist to change them if the meds don't agree with you

I agree with Kate.  As I was saying to someone the other day, if you read all the side effects you'd never take anything.  But if they work the benefits outweigh the side effects.

When I took Fluoxetine, i felt awful for about 2 weeks, then fine.  My new meds make me feel a bit sleepy, but I can live with that.

Sorry if this seems a bit short or abrupt but I'm just entering busy mode so am a little bit haywire but just take them. Its two tiny pills and if they do make you feel a bit rough then tell the doc and he'll sort it for you. If you want to get better for real you have only one option. It'll be ok.

Also start to right thinhs down now each day whilst you are starting, list every feelingn thought you have...it helps.

There you go that was my "short abrupt" reply lol....oops

All the best!!

I was scared when I was first diagnosed.  Such a stigma with mental health and thought should I take them, read the leaflet and was even more scared.  That was five years ago and I know if I do not take them I would not be well now.  So I agree with other posts, try them hopefully they will make you feel better and if not then tell your dr.  Sometimes it takes a few to find a med that works for you.

Hope it goes well.

I remember feeling so angry when I was diagnosed as I had and have a happy home etc.  Just seemed so unfair.

But depression can hit anytime and anyone its not choosy  :(.

Take care

I'm glad you're finding support here &*(

hi kate,i started writing my notes, and as u say tears were streaming down my face, but i got into my steelworking phrase'ah my old man was blown up by the germans'.which i totally respect and admire with all my heart.and thought f..k it,people were much worse than me,so it cant be that bad!?
which makes me think,if they went thro all that and uve got the likes of me moaning about my darkness then perhaps it is time to get a grip, but most times i cant.
i dont know im really confused.as ive said prev said ive got the most caring wife ever,2 beautiful kids and a tidy job.???

Its easier said than done 'getting a grip'.  I often feel guilty for complaining about how I feel when there are so many people suffering.

Depression is horrible and I often say I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
