Propranolol
« on: November 21, 2011, 10:12:19 PM »
This is anxiety related, but posted it here has these section is more freqently used.

I have been prescribed Propranolol Hydrochloride 80 mg.

I was wondering if anyone else has experience of these tablets, and if so, how useful they found them

I have had one and feel quite odd. I am also on 45 mg mirtazipine, the doctor said this may happen.

i was on 80mg of propananol for nearly a year i am also taking 0.5mg of clonazepam 1 or 2 a night for RLS at the same time i was also taking a very high dose of citrizine an antihistamine for chronic hives! i was also taking citalopram 20mg.
i found propananol really helped me to stay calm and would definitely recommend it. whether it was a combination of all the other drugs i'm not sure, i didn't have any side effects - not that i can remember anyway.
I came off allof these after my latest self harming episode, where the crisis management team were horrified at the high dose of propananol and that my meds had never been reviewed by my doctor.
not sure if this has helped any?

Thankyou for your response.

They calm me down alot. I would like to take them full time, but I am not sure this is allowed. I suffer from awful anxiety, its such a horrible feeling, and it is as much physical as it is mental.

Hi,

I have previously been on the same combination of Mirtazapine and Propranolol, I have Psychotic Depression and did have associated anxiety which is what the Propranolol was prescribed for. Unfortunately the two medications together is asking for weight gain. One of Mirtazapine's primary side affects is weight gain and the Propranolol makes it particularly hard to exercise as it slows your heart right down, especially a dose of 80mg.

My advice, speak to your GP and change one or the other. I was fortunate enough to no longer need the Propranolol and had the Mirtazapine changed but I put on about 3 stone whilst on them.

Good luck.

James.

Thanks mate.

My belly is of constant amusement to others. I now refer to it as my mirtazipine belly.

I seem to have no problem attracting women, even with it, so I see it as no immediate problem.

I do powerlifting, have to say, I've found no problem doing very heavy gym work on propranolol.
