Hello, I'm new here and would just like to introduce myself in a few words. I've suffered from symptoms of depression for most of my life but it was only in the last couple of years that I started to get treated. I'm not much better right now and still have severe bouts of depression as well as other symptoms - anxiety and depressive thoughts for instance - but am sometimes able to deal a tad better with them. I have also just moved to the UK shortly ago, so I do not know much about how things regarding doctors and psychiatric counsel work here.. hope you don't mind my asking some questions about this stuff...

If you think things can't get worse it's probably only because you lack sufficient imagination.

Thanks very much for welcoming me, guys. I hope I'll like it here, but if you're right, I think so :)

My first question is (I don't know if I should open an extra thread for these questions) - Is it possible to get psychiatric medication from a GP here? I had received medication as treatment where I'm from and would like to continue that here, but don't know where to start, actually. However, I guess I'll need to register with a GP anyway..

yes I'd guess most of us, if not all, get our medication from our GP's or via him from our mental health teams.

Yes you definitely need to register first then you will need to make an appointment,  I dont know if its possible for the NHS to get your records from elsewhere but if not I suggest you either try to get a letter from your previous doctor or take your current medication with you when you go for your appointment.

Hi BladeRunner welcome to the forum. It sounds like a good first step would be to register with a GP, explain your situation, take your meds packets with you and the details of your previous medical surgery and go from there. I would do this sooner rather than later in case there is a delay with the change over.

I hope you find this forum useful. We will all try to help as much as we can.

Take care. Lol
