how this forum helps you
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:25:52 PM »
just list how this place helps you.  if you wish you could read some of what will be in here to anyone who doesn't understand why you come here

this place has given me some where that i can come to and know i wont be ridiculed for what i say and it will be understood as this illness can only be truly understood by a fellow sufferer.

True and you don't feel silly explaining our thoughts, troubles or some of the things we go through.XX

It helps 'cause you can get things out in the open instead of bottling them up.XX

yeah thats a good one, bottling things up is definitely not good and talking to people around you can sometimes make you feel a lot worse.

That's right, I can't speak to people because I can just tell that it is alien to them. They think it is just a matter of 'pulling yourself together, or get out more etc. Oh well. relax if U can ! XX

when I first came to this forum I hadn't got anyone that understood my condition.
since being able to just say exactly what I am thinking and how I am feeling I have noticed that my life is that tiny bit better. I have been given the courage to start seeing a psychiatrist, I am considering medications and other therapies and just today it suddenly occured to me that I dont find myself rocking as much as I used to.

its the small things that count and without this forum I dread to think where I could have ended up. the people I talk to and the support I receive is wonderful.
thanks guys

Thanks for starting this thread cornish, its really useful :)

Its definitely being able to talk to people who really understand how it feels to be depressed, wont tell me to get my act together or pull myself together and understand how I can be up one day and down the next and understand my mood swings and how tired I can get.

Its the ability to talk frankly about how I feel and have felt in the past with this illness knowing that everyone understands what its like.

I dont have to worry what people think of me in here as I know we are all in the same situation

In a funny way its also a feeling of belonging but I'm not sure if I'm explaining that right....

I think this forum helps because you realise that it isn't just you who feels like this, when I am out everybody seems so 'together' if you know what I mean and you think it is only you that feels numb, out of it, miserable, unable to cope sometimes  :'(,and that makes you feel worse - an outsider, but now I do feel better that there are others out there, and you all seem so kind and helpful . Maybe that is because I haven't met with similar people before. I did go to stress management, not quite the same.
Anyway thanks XX

I know what you mean about feeling numb and out of it when you're out, its a weird feeling and really horrible  :'(

No one can really understand these feelings unless the've experienced them which is why this forum is so great to post in, we all understand what its like and can help each other in a way that no one else can.

I feel it's a comfortable environment where people don't judge, and whether they truley understand is irrelevant, it's the fact that they understand there is something to be understood that's the most supportive thing.

Thanks Lol x

I like that I have somewhere to off load and vent without having to say sorry for feeling that way.
Loved ones support us but I for one only let them know the tip of the iceberg, cause any deeper and they would run a million miles.

Being understood is a huge comfort on a bad day x
