Mirtazapine / Remeron... Just started...
« on: July 28, 2011, 03:59:44 PM »
Been put on Mirtazapine 30mg from 15mg and feeling really irritable. Having screaming hysterical fits and always annoyed at my husband through no fault of his own. (Literally, i can hear myself being ridiculous)
Also sleeping about 13 hours a night and exhausted all day.
Anyone else had this? Doc said to just wait and see which im doing but i feel so rubbish all the time :(

I do the same while my medication takes time to kick in, I have no experience of Mirtazapine so cant help you specifically on that but thought it might be helpful to know it can be a symptom of depression/anxiety.

Were you doing the same before you started on the ADs?  If it wasnt and its getting worse you need to hassle your doc (not easy Iknow)

hey and welcome  it did make me feel more exhausted and sleep more but that passed and my insomnia kicked back in, the only affect i really hated was that i constantly made me want to eat, literally anything.
how long have you been on the dosage change, you may need to give it a bit more time as it cold just be you body adjusting to the new dosage.
If you think things can't get worse it's probably only because you lack sufficient imagination.

Hey - as Zaf and Cornish have both pointed out, all AD's take a while (4-6 weeks) to really take effect. Depending how long you have been on them you could be experiencing some early side effects and if this is the case then they should pass over the next few weeks.

I was on Mitrazapine for a while last year - Like Cornish says, the only thing I really noticed was that my appetite increased dramatically!! This was the main reason I came off of it - I get very anxious about my weight, so the fear of putting weight on just made my situation worse.

As I am sure you are well aware - extreme tiredness is a symptom of depression - confusingly, a lot of AD's have a side effect of 'tiredness'  ::) So... only you will know if this and the irritability are things that have coincided with taking the medication of if they are symptoms of your depression. If they get worse or to the point where you are finding them unbearable I would encourage you to go back to your gp.

Take care and let us know how you are getting on.
