Newbie Friartuck...hello.
« on: April 14, 2011, 10:11:30 AM »
Hiya everyone.. thought I had better post my first post and get involved properly. I'm a late 30's male, Married with 2 kids. Diagnosed with depression 2 and a half months ago. I had a crazy 3 months before it was properly diagnosed. Up at weird hours, excessive fight or flight responses to situations, Unable to concentrate scored 21 out of 27 on the NHS depression questionaire. Was hollowed out inside and feeling hopeless about pretty much everything. The only thing i did not try and do was plan my suicide. I did think about if I was carried off with a heart attack how that would be fine by me.

I am lucky to work for an organisation that has taken my condition seriously they have let me have time off and build up my return to work carefully. They have put someone in charge of the day to day stuff while i build myself up again on "projects" which do need doing to make the whole job manageable.

The doc put me on 20 mg citalopram which has been working but I have had 4 sessions of counselling paid for by my work and that really helped me get to grips with the things that cause me stress which caused the depression. I am pretty much living day to day at the moment and my foward planning is almost impossible for me right now. Reading a book about depression and finding it helpful to know that I had basically blown the fuse in my limbic system and my brain was malfunctioning as a result. anyway hi everyone..and hope this forum thing will help me...
