Medication
« on: February 27, 2011, 08:57:24 PM »
Well i've been put on fluoxetine by my GP, this was on thursday and told it could take several weeks to take effect. I felt pretty bad in the run up to my appointment and then really bad for the past few days (on and off throughout the day).
I know fluoxetine is seen as a bog standard AD, but does anyone know if it works? also even though i've only been taking it a few days can i still get side effects in the short term?

I ask because i've had a few dizzy spells and confusion, though today i have felt "normal" accept for in the morning. Now i'm scared waiting to crash again...

Thanks Will

Hi Will you have to give it up to 4-6 weeks for it to kick in and yes these are the results of taking them but if is not working or settling down after this period or your condition gets worse you will have to go back to your Doctor.  I think a lot of people respond well to this drug, for me it took a while until I got one to agree with me.  Keep fighting :)

I was also on fluoxetine. It does take a few weeks to take effect, my doctor prescribed me a mild sedative for that time. I didn't have the side effects you describe myself. I found it did help me; it made life a bit easier while I had therapy and worked on self-esteem, towards long term relief from depression. Hope it helps you.

Hi Will,

I've been taking the same for 10 days now, and I had the same confusion, dizziness and some headaches.
In the first week I did feel better but also had the odd bad day, I think the worse bit is waiting for the bad day, but once I had it i felt less worried about it.
All I can say is that it does start to get better and hold on in there buddy!

Hi Will
I'm only on day 3 and specifically came on here to ask about side effects. I havent been dizzy but I have the worst nausea (which is something I hate since being sick scares me and causes panic) I have to keep reminding myself its the pills. Also have a really dry mouth and headaches. Glad its not my imagination. I also have to go back in 3 weeks. I just have a month supply too.
