new to depression
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:48:01 PM »
Hi guys, new to all this, first to introduce myself.
I'm a 23 year old guy, used to be a fairly happy guy.

Over the last week I've had a terrible time.
I've fell into complete hopelessness which i've only felt once before (2 months ago, didn't understand what the reason for it was at the time).
After reading other posts I've seen that I've had the normal depression symptoms... crying all day, couldn't get out of bed, loss of appetite, no motivation and really irritable. Went to the doctor and I'm now on some meds that I'm told will help.

Today is the first day I've got up and not felt too bad :D

I found this place and it seemed like a good idea to come to a place where other people know what I'm going through.

I have a few questions to ask though, if thats ok...
1. as i've never had this before, and I'm on a good day today, when ur having a good day, does it usually start to taper off or can you just wake up and be smack bang in the middle of the dark place again?
2. once the meds start working, will I still have really bad days or will the meds stop these?

sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, I'm just new to this and a curious guy looking for advice!

cheeeeeeeeeeeeers!

Hello and  !"£

Well done for getting to your doc and getting help, admitting there is a problem is always the first step towards solving the problem  :D Glad you're feeling ok today.

I can only answer your questions from my own experience, so here are my answers:
1. Sometimes I could be having a good day and then get upset by something really daft, and turn it into a bad day. Sometimes I could have a good day and wake up feeling yuk the next day for no apparent reason, or vice versa. Days didn't usually gradually slide from good to bad. (Most of my days are good now  ()_ There is hope!)
2. The meds should stop the bad days being really bad, they take the edge off your pain so that you can function better and start to work towards getting rid of the depression through improving your self esteem, dealing with issues, or whatever works for you.

Hope this helps and that the good days keep coming. Keep posting!

Hi and a warm  !"£ to the forum, Junior and Bel have given you sound advice.  Acceptance of the illness and being kind to yourselves are great steps to helping you get better.  For me the meds take the edge off and help me sleep and my mind rest, take care and keep posting :)

Thanks guys!
I've experienced some good days turning into bad and the other way around now.
Thanks for your advice, I guess its just getting used to the fact that each day will be different and can change hour to hour.

I can say this... It REALLY makes me appreciate good days and every little good thing!
