Deep Depression
« on: August 11, 2015, 04:13:02 AM »
Hello!  I've not been here in a long time......and I really need to talk...

The past few months my depression has become really bad. My therapist referred me to a psychiatrist for an evaluation of things, one being my medication.  I saw him and he was very good...kind, understanding, knowledgeable and very through. He did start me on a new medication (and tapering off w2hat I was currently taking).  I'll see him again on the 17th and see how things are going.

I'm now taking Cymbalta (Duloxetine) and seem to be tolerating it well. I've been on it now 20 days.

I've been dealing with intense sadness and just feeling lost and hopeless, even thinking o death. I'm not in any danger of doing anything....I just feel such despair and darkness.

Holding on to hope that the new medicine will help.

I'm sorry you are feeling so yucky atm but you did the right thing coming back to the forum and talking about it.  It sounds like you've got a supportive team on your side... maybe ask for a CPN when you see the doc next week though?  Do you trust your GP?  Maybe you could talk to him/her while you're waiting?  I'll keep you in my thoughts!

Hi Fig, welcome back to the forums.
its good that your current meds seem to be helping, some people get bad side effects and need to change meds a few time till one is found that works.
As Amanda says, a chat with your doc can help, as long as you have a doc with empathy,
also, if you havent done so already see if there is a MIND office in your area

Thank you for your replies and support..it means a lot to me.

The Cymbalta seems to be helping. I feel a bit lighter.

What is MIND? If I know what it is, I an inquire.

I'm so glad the Cymbalta seems to be helping you - I hope it helps for as long as you need it!

MIND is, I think, a mental health group that supports people within the community?  Could be wrong though!  lol

Thank you for the link.  That looks like a wonderful organization.  However, I'm in the States...New York to be exact.  We have some things available...a drop in place here (Rochester, NY) and psycho-social organization.

I see my therapist every week, which is a big help.  I see my GP every 3 months. I'll see the psychiatrist again on September 15th and we'll access things.

Do you trust your team of professionals?  How would you feel about asking for more support next time you see them... a CPN or support worker or something like that?   :happy0158:
