Jogging/running

My doctor said he wanted me to start running, i only did 10 minutes the first time, and I've tried to get out and take walks, short bike rides. But then a couple of days ago i managed a 50 minute jog and today i got out for another 50 minute jog. I'm not sure it's made me motivate anymore, but i feel slightly less depressed and wondered how/if exercise has helped anyone else? and what exercise it was/is?.....
