hello
« on: October 18, 2010, 01:15:11 AM »
I am new and thought I would say hello.
I have suffered with re occuring clinical depression since I was 14 and am now 47. At first I didn't know about depression and it was only when I was in my mid thirties that I was diagnosed. I had post natal depression in my 20's but didn't really get that much help, mainly because I kept telling myself that I was ok and not telling the doctor otherwise.
I have now managed to lose another job, due to a bout which has lasted about 18 months.  I keep thinking that things are getting better and then I go down again. At the moment I have trouble going out and talking to people, even online, so this is a real breakthrough for me.
I am serously thinking of coming off the antidepressant as they don't seem to do me any good, although I think my doctor would disagree with me.
I am going to try to go outside tomorrow and see how that goes.
I maynot be on this site a lot as it depends how bad I feel.
I wish you all well.
Regards
Carry

Hi Carry, and welcome.

Well done for taking the step and posting here. I also tend to hide when I'm feeling bad, which can make things feel even worse.

I have also had bad experiences with work due to my depression and trying to struggle on instead of getting help. And I know exactly what you mean about going up and down; you think it's going ok and then it knocks you over again. I wish I knew the answers, but all I can offer is good wishes for you.

thank you all for welcoming me to this site.  I have been reading different posts and I have already realised that I am not alone. I am a little paranoid at the moment and always think that people wont like me, so your welcome means a lot to me.
Love and Peace

Hello Carry, welcome to the site... I'm also a new member. Depression is such lonely place with not many people understanding you.

I think on your good days, it's important to capitalize and do something  such as what other people might take for granted like walk to the shops or go for a coffee etc. It usually is a good thing to reward yourself when you've completed a task like that, such as take an hot bath or something you love doing what you enjoy or enjoyed in the past.

It's important to feel safe and secure when you a feeling that you can't go out anywhere by being somewhere you feel safe in your own environment.

I hope you are feeling better and if you want to talk just let me know

thanks
John
