Unable to cope
« on: September 14, 2010, 10:18:43 AM »
Hi, I am new here but am trying to find a way to cope with depression. I have had episodes of depression for many years but have never found any medication that has helped me only given me unwanted side effects. After the death of my father I have been a care for my disabled elderly mother and even after three years I am still finding things difficult. My G.P. has prescribed Cymbalta but I am relunctant to try it as everything seems so hopeless, no future and nothing to look forward to no light at the end of the tunnel, I am just at the end of my tether, the bottom of a well with no way out. Help.

Hi frienless,
Anti depressants seem to help a lot of people on this forum when they find the right ones for them, Cymbalta might be worth a try if you want help as those could be the ones thats change the way you feel right now.
You will never be friendless on this forums everyone understand everyone else, its a very caring forum.
Hope you feel better soon

Hi friendless

A warm welcome to the forum.  Personally I have only been diagnosed around a year ago, I am now on my 4th type of medication.  I am still on the phase, whereby like yesterday I could take on the world, but today I feel very unwell.  I think it is trial and error with the meds, and personally it gets very frustrating, as we all know depression has no outward visible sign to someone who doesn't know us.  If you have to take a antibiotic you are usually cured within 1-2 weeks, but depression is different.  I WANT TO GET BETTER NOW,  but we know its seems to  be a slow process.

You have a lot to deal with, in your past and present, Duloxetine (Cymbalta)  may be the one to help you.  A good doctor will listen to you, and how you are progressing.  Take care

Hi
I've found that the trouble with the meds is that they are so slow acting. When I was first diagnosed and given my first batch of tablets, I was back after a fortnight yelling at the doc...at which point he explained to me that they can take ages to actually start to show any effects. I'm now on another batch which I've been on for three years, they work...most of the time... Persevere my friend
