Alcohol
« on: October 30, 2012, 08:05:49 PM »
Need some advice about controlling my alcohol intake.  Since I have been diagnosed with depression almost a year ago I have found time to sit down and think about the depression itself and also what changes I can make in life to help with my condition, joining this forum has certainly helped. I have  came to the conclusion that alcohol is starting to become a part of my life, I would not normally drink Sunday to Thursday I cannot stand hangovers whilst at work , In the past I have  controlled the weekend consumption however I have noticed its increasing which I am concerned about. I have now decided to slowly get myself off drink in view of becoming teetotal. I won’t kid myself and think it will be easy especially at the weekend but I am determined to give it a go. Is there is any tips anyone can give? Any help will be much appreciated.  ^-^

Hello. I used to drink a lot befor but now I take ADs and that's a good motivation for me because I know I can't drink  while on ADs. Also, after one pint of beer I command myself to not carry on because I want another and another pint. I miss being drunk but it is definitely worth not drinking. I think the best thing to do is to make a firm decision not to drink alcohol or at least in moderation. Alcohol might seem like an option for coping with depression and anxiety but it is very short term option. In a long run it only makes everything worse.

Yeah in moderation.  I went off alcohol for a few months  was ok. But I trust myself not to drink to much, I enjoy a drink once and a while  its not a crime but at the same time you need to limit yourself to say a few drinks a week.

May I suggest that when you are drinking to write it down(also there is apps as well) to monitor your alcohol intake
BEFORE YOU ACT, LISTEN
BEFORE YOU REACT, THINK
BEFORE YOU SPEND, EARN
BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE, WAIT
BEFORE YOU PRAY, FORGIVE

BEFORE YOU QUIT, TRY

Many thanks mrpineapple20 and mat great advice the thought of giving up altogether seemed a daunting task I do enjoy real ale and occasional glass or two of wine especially when the weather has been nice and sitting in the garden I think moderation does seem a good compromise. I might give it up for a couple of months just to clear my system and gain some self control and will power.  $%$
