Medication and Driving (Sertraline)
« on: September 06, 2012, 08:57:16 AM »
I'm on 100mg Sertraline, and the sticker on the pack says:
CAUTION: YOUR DRIVING REACTIONS MAY BE IMPAIRED

I haven't driven in 2 years but would like to start driving my partner's car again.
I gave it a try this morning and after I got over the initial 'rustyness' as I haven't driven in so long, I seemed to be OK. I stayed to quiet residential streets.

I'm wondering how safe it will be for me to drive more, and longer distances (freeways etc). I am a very careful driver but I'm concerned about being on medication and whether my reaction times would be as bad as the pack says.

Any advice/ experiences?

A lot of meds say that, it's because they can make you drowsy. I drive on meds.

If you're worried ask at the chemist

Also if you feel drowsy then don't drive which would be advisable even if you wasn't taking any meds.   I don't drive much as we don't have a car so if we hire one I will have a break if I feel drowsy due to one of my meds making me drowsy at times.

I agree it does say this on a lot of meds. I would say trust your own instincts. If you feel drowsy then don't drive. Check with your Dr or pharmacist if concerned. S x x x.

My doctor said that if I drove then he would advise me not to because my reactions seemed to be impaired on the medication I am on (Trazadone) This has manifested itself in other ways though, for example I am injuring myself more frequently and am very clumsy. Check with your Dr if you are unsure, but I'm pretty sure in a general warning and everybody will react differently.
This too shall pass.
