Repressed anger anyone?
« on: June 19, 2010, 11:33:58 PM »
Hi all,

I've had the usual symptoms for depression since my teenage years (along with eating disroders/self-harm and suicidal thoughts). I'm now 20 and I got properly diagnosed this year (along with being told I had  high levels of anxiety and low self-esteem).

I've refused medication and have been seeing a counsellor. She said that I had a lot of repressed anger which had caused my depression. She also said that I repressed it so much that I wouldn't let her help me and there was nothing more she could do and advised me to see a psychotherapist.

A therapist in England costs a lot.

Just wondering if anyone else has repressed anger issues? Has anyone sought treatment and do they think it's effective? Would really appreciate any advice - life isn't fun when you keep dragging around 6 years worth of issues.

Hi there,

In my experience, I've not had repressed anger but before I seen my counsellor etc I did have a lot of unexpressed feelings that were building up and building up over a long period of time. I think that if you looked into it more, you might be able to find a therapist that might be useful for you. Why don't you try talking to your GP about it, and see if he/she can refer you to someone? That's what I did, and I got referred quite quickly, so it was a lot better than just getting put on a waiting list.

I would recommend CCBT (Computurised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) I literally recommend it to everyone, but it really does do wonders, it did for me anyway! See if theres any CCBT courses near you, and I would give it a go!

Hope that this might help a little bit,
Take care x
