So anxious
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:09:34 PM »
Hi guys,

I've been feeling really anxious today. I was wondering if anyone had any techniques that they use to help deal with those feelings. I just feel that awful, heavy yet hollow feeling in the top of my stomach. When the doctor upped my Citalopram they started to subside a little but they are still there and today is a bad day. I also seem to now be getting excessive sweat even when I am not hot. I don't know if it's because the worst part of the anxiety is just masked by the medication but the physical symptoms are still there, or if the sweating is a direct result of the medication. The weird adrenaline type shocks have been bad today too. I'm worried in case it is my heart. It kind of feels like a zap, maybe adrenaline shooting through me starting from my chest. Very hard to describe. I'm not sure if again it's just another physical sign of stress and anxiety or if it's from the meds. :(

xxx

It might be worth going to see your GP to put your mind at rest

Yes, I will do. I have a telephone consultation with her this week as I am away from home for a while, so I'll mention it to her then. I'll let you know how it goes xx

I got the weird type of adrenaline rush from citalopram, it made me feel really good for about 30 mins then I was back to normal. It is defo the medication believe me, I'm currently suffering from anxiety (GAD) so I know how it feels to
Have these physical symptoms, you're not alone :) I saw my psychiatrist two days ago and she told me that Citalopram takes 4-6 weeks to kick in for anxiety, so I quit immediately, I think the natural ways of learning to cope with it are better than taking chemicals, for techniques on how to relieve the physical symptoms there is something really simple you can do and that is to sit up straight somewhere quiet and comfortable, close your eyes and breath in deeply though your nose and out of your mouth deeply and tense one muscle at a time, do every part of your body, do this when you're feeling extremely anxious, or if you want join a yoga class, yoga is apparently amazing :D
