Fluoxetine to Venlafaxine
« on: June 04, 2010, 12:04:42 PM »
Hi all,

I was just wandering if anyone else has experienced this transition. I am currently on my 4th Day without Fluoxetine ready to change on Monday but feel unbelievably crap. Also if anyone has tried Venlafaxine could I please have opinions as I have heard many different, often conflicting opinions of it.

Ciao

Mike

Hi Mike,

Well I'm not sure about the medication you're taking or the side effects etc unfortunately, but unless someone who is on the same medication replies, I think you might be best going back to your GP and asking about it. It might be the case of you need to get used to the new medication when you start taking it, but I'm not completely sure.

I would definately go back to your GP though, they'll know why you're feeling the way you are  :)

In the meantime, when you're feeling so rubbish, stay with people you trust and feel comfortable, so you don't feel worse or lonely etc,
Take care Mike xxx

I have been on both these medications. I am currently taking slow-release venlafaxine/venaax and have found it to be generally okay.
Just felt a bit queezy for the first few days to a week.
Sometimes I find it difficult to work out whether depression or anxiety causes some symptons or whether it is the medication.
I can't believe your GP suddenly stopped your fluoxetine before starting you on venlafaxine. No wonder you were feeling so crap. I believe anyone would in this situation.

Hope you are feeling better now that you have been on your new medication for a while.

Your doc had to stop flux ,its an ssri med,  an your going on to a snri. so you have to a wash out your system before you can go on the new type of med. If he had given you another ssri like sertraline, you could have just tapperd over with out the crap.

Im off of it now. My blood pressure shot up and a different doctor stopped me immediatly. Now on Citalopram although this is causing alot of hassle aswell. Been on it for a while now and am so fatigued all the time. Had tests to rule out other problems such as hypothyroidism which came back clear. Dr is stuck now as my body seems to react in different ways to most people.
