I don't know if other parts of the country are hearing the 'inside news' on Londoners opinions on the Olympics. I live near the very busy York road and only 3 miles from the city. In 14 years, I've never known it to be so deadly quiet, almost spooky. The Olympic Lanes are constantly empty, diversion of traffic utterly pointless.
Business in Central London is at an all time low. Theatre's, shops, pubs and restaurants are extremely quiet. Extra buses litter the roads, empty. It's thought, not only have tourists avoided visiting London, many Londoners have taken time off work in anticipation of it being so very busy, as the Government and Olympic Organising Team had us believe.
Just like the Millenium Dome, the millions extra income to the Capital they said would justify their expenditure, just never materialised.

If a plumer came to your home and quoted 100 quid for a job, only to then charge you 600, would you pay him? Of course not. But., that's what these big fat cat building contractors are allowed to do. The whole project is millions over budget. And the very same business's who fill their greedy pockets are probably the same who provide the Government with their biggest donations. &*&
Sorry, but I feel the country should never have tried for the bid in the first place, considering the financial position we are in. It makes me sick to hear of the money spent... wasted... when we have children up and down the country living in so much poverty; many going to school without food and spending weekends without any meals at all, while living in cold damp council flats in squalled housing estates.
The failed Millenium dome was one of Blair's legacies... the Olympics are down to the other donuts.

Ah.... I feel better for that, but am very aware that many don't share my opinions so I'm probably in the firing line here
