Hi

Hi all. Nice to meet you  *()

I'll try and keep this as short as I can.

I was first diagnosed with major depressive disorder when I first attempted suicide at age 11. I kind of shuffled through adolescence with no support (my parents were and are still in denial. I played the suicide attempt as an accident after my mum responded with 'do you know what this means for us..we'll have to leave the business. You had such a bright future, it's a shame). I somehow got into uni, and failed to the point that I landed in hospital.

I flunked out of an English degree as I could no longer read or write. I moved back home, where thanks to scholarship, I am now doing my second try at uni - a Psychology degree. I'm 23 now.

I have been relatively okay since I've moved back - I see a psychiatrist here who has prescribed 200mg Sertraline, 1mg Xanax and some amount (can't remember) of Seroquel, as I have psychotic features.

Lately, I've found that I'm slipping again. I just want to stay asleep all day - I double or triple my Xanax dose sometimes to make this happen. I've been drinking a lot more and am being an a** in social situations as I just want to be alone. I feel lonely as I've talked to my family to death about my depression, and someone has actually told me that they are all sick of it. I wondered why they were not inviting me when they went out.  :-[ My insomnia is also coming back, judging by the fact that it's currently 4am and I haven't slept yet. After two hours sleep last night.

I guess I'm just looking for some support, and I'm hoping to be supportive as well   %^%.

Hi and welcome   *)*

It might be worth going to see your GP to tell him/her of your worsening symptoms, it might be all thats needed is a change or tweak in your medication

Hi and welcome to the forum. I agree I think you need to have a chat about your symptoms with your Dr. Take care. S x x x x

Captain Mustard…. love the name…I am on a similar drug regime and agree with the others; it’s always good to talk to your prescriber about any change in mood.

The first part of your post was generally positive in the midst of what has obviously been a difficult time for you.

Perhaps occasionally “doubling or tripling up on our meds” could possibly cause disruption to the already fragile balance of our brain.

I take Serequel and know from experience that the effects of alcohol feel more intense.  While it’s a good release at the time, too much too often only adds to complications.

As you get to read more and more posts, you will learn we all have similar experiences with family and friends surrounding depression.

Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome!

I could only get a psych appointment for a month from now, so that'll have to do.

Captain.... It is always very slow getting to see the Psychiatrist.  Are you able to talk with your GP?  What about your holidays from Uni?  Maybe that will be a good opportunity to take time out and sort a few things out.

Also, It might be worth mentioning, I was in sporadic touch with my Psychiatrist for 12 yrs and always found the wait to see him a pain.  What I then found out, only a few months ago, is that he is part of a Community Mental Health Team, made up of different types of professional workers.  They are great if you're needing extra support.  It sounds as though you might benefit from a "Care Co-ordinator" as a consistent point of contact over the coming summer months.

I hope things start to look up
