Why?
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:55:31 PM »
When we are depressed we feel the need to struggle on, put a brave face on things and pretend to the outside world everything is OK?

Do we feel guilty because we need to rest

dont we like to admit we're ill, yes ill, if we had a heart condition we'd ease up, take the medication and not struggle on regardless so why on earth do we think we can when we're ill with depression?

I think we suffer as we do because we do struggle on. We worry what people think when many don't. We hate taking any meds even paracetamol. We hate going to the dr's when others go when they sneeze. S x x x x

I know I put on a front so nobody knows but my problem is I know depression is an illness but it's not like other illnesses where people can see symptons.  Those I do talk to about it will smile and nod their heads but they don't really understand because they can't see anything wrong with me physically.

I guess because the organ that makes these decisions is the one that isn't working properly.

That seems very logical Joe, after all if I had cancer people wouldnt be able to see it but they would be sympathetic if they knew, I wonder in that case would I put on a brave face and hide it like I do the depression?

Well my Mum had bowel cancer (touchwood recovered now) and was forever being told to 'stay positive' - it really bloody annoyed her because quite honestly she wanted to wallow a bit sometimes for her own sanity.
