Looking for contributors to a BBC3 documentary
« on: July 13, 2012, 10:23:05 AM »
Hello all,

I’m a documentary filmmaker currently working with Ronachan Films in London, UK. We make documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4 and have a strong track record in making films on difficult subjects that require a sensitive and genuine approach. We're developing a new documentary for BBC3 about the ways in which young people are reaching out and supporting each other with their mental health issues online. If you're UK-based, aged 15-25, and feel that an online community has helped you with your mental health issues, or if you’ve made an important friend online who is helping you to recover, then it would be great to hear from you. Please email me at [redacted]. If you do get in touch, our conversation will be treated in confidence and there’ll be absolutely no commitment to being involved.

Many thanks.

UPDATE 13.08.2012 - Hi again guys, thank you so much for all your help. We've now found all the contributors we need for the moment, so I'm going to close this thread soon. I'll post another update if and when this project goes out on TV. Take care everyone.

Im too old also, but many here have suffered from depression from a younger age (in the group you speak of) and now find comfort in forums that were not there when they first battled with their depression. Im sure I speak for most of us when i say I could really have benefitted from this support when the disease was 'new' and scary to me in my younger days.

Im happy to contribute if thats an angle you would be interested in.
Crazy like a fish.

Thanks for all the replies. I do wish age wasn't an issue (at the very least it would make my job a lot easier)! But that's BBC3 for you...

I don't suppose anyone has any suggestions for any mental health forums that younger people might be using?

There are quite a few younger people that use this forum, they're just not usually around during the day. Hopefully they'll be in touch with you later, although I think that they suffer with the stigma of mental illness an awful lot, especially the attitude of their families towards it

Us older farts could dress up hip and trendy and wear wigs and all that?

Moved and have 'sticky this topic'  $%$

I'm an old fart too  _)_ although I like the idea of us all donning wigs and trendy in an effort to look younger.......

I'm within the age range and think the documentary sounds very interesting but the idea of taking part sounds like hell. I really hope you find people that will contribute and help.

I dont think trendy clothes and wigs would disguise my age  ;)
