Hi, new guy hoping to change
« on: July 06, 2012, 12:36:32 PM »
Hi, not sure how things work what your supposed to say etc etc so here goes. Been trying to fight depression for about 4-5 years now and tried many techniques, all unsuccessful. I find it very difficult to open up to people as I feel as I just burden them with my problems when their problems are much greater (in my eyes). This is the same when I seek professional help, I understand its their job but I see everyone as better than me and they shouldn't waste their time on me.

Anyway don't want to go too much in detail yet I'm just hoping this will act as a trigger to change me so Hi to you all :)

Welcome to the forum Grumpy - it's a great place to talk and people are very understanding. Many here will identify with the whole negative self image issue - you are just as unique, important and worthwhile as every other human being on the planet  *)*

Hi GC,

I am like you fighting depression for a decade but with the abuse of alcohol and anti-depressant pills together so I made myself worse. Now I decided to give up the  alcohol(AL) and see what happens !
I am on,
mild antidepressant like Fluoxtine 20 mg  thrice a day .
Studying and reading out every materials since 10 years,
Now doing some exercise and meditation.
I have lost weight after quitting AL about 5 Kg so feeling great and comfortable.
I think I can lift me up ....
What about you Grumppy???
Do you involved in substance abuse / having any pills ?
A big hugs,
Dixon

Hi dixon nice to meet you. I was on anti-depressants but only for a short while, the thoughts and more importantly my intentions whilst I was on them was scary, very scary! The only thing that had kept me going was university was just around the corner, something I had wanted to go to since I was really young. The tablets I tried were fluoxetine and propranolol. I decided it was best for me to stop, its not made things any better, just terrified of going back on tablets for reasons already mentioned. Gym was great as I am very angry about myself and who I am so to take it out on weights was of benefit but it soon dwindled (its effects) and I lost energy. The thing that I find helps is sleep, however you can only sleep for so long. I go to counselling and I'm awaiting an appointment to see a psychologist. I am glad things are looking up for you Dixon and hope it continues.

Thank you all for your kind comments :)

Hi grumpy,welcome 2 the forum.

I find sleep helps a lot. But I do agree, only so much. After periods of lots of sleep I start 2 feel ill. But it helps 2 numb the pain that we go through, day 2 day!

Anyway,welcome x
