Back and Neck Pain?
« on: June 16, 2012, 09:22:49 PM »
Ok so this really isn't depression related at all but I got to ask somewhere. I have a really painful back and a stiff neck, I know its because of all the walking/ exercise I have had to do for my exercise plan. My back feels like its burning sometimes and its so sore :( my neck is stiff and painful too.

Any know any miracle pain relief or something I can do to make it a bit more comfortable? I don't really want to go back to the doctors yet and even if I did I wouldn't be able to go until monday anyway, still got half the weekend to go. Any advice would be much appreciated xxx

It could be tension IceLolly, it often affects my neck and shoulders   -  although all the walking could be the reason too.

Try some cold and hot treatment - cold first and last, alternate with hot, I use hot and cold wather bottles, it takes out inflamation and relaxes the muscles

Ibuprofen and a nice warm bath.

Although I am really achy today from being upset

Thanks Kate and Zaf xx

Think I will just take a couple of ibuprofen tablets and go to bed for now. Zaf the hot and cold treatment sounds like a good idea and I will try it in the morning if I'm still in pain. Buddy is asleep in his puppy crate in the kitchen so if I go crashing about making hot water bottles I will probably wake him up. Xx

hi ice
i know this may sound preachy and if it does i'm sorry but do you stretch before your exercises and do you warm down as these will help also i'm sure you know stress can tie you in knots in these areas so for me its a painkiller and one of those lavender and wheat microwaveable heat packs i hope you feel better soon

Thanks tharidler, no I don't stretch or cool down when I exercise. But then my exercise at the moment is mostly just gentle walks.

Maybe just do some gentle stretches Icelolly. Make your body as tall as you can and reach up, hold that for a little bit and then raise alternate hands and stretch up further. Alternativley lie on the floor with your knees raised, let both your knees slowly drop to the right and then slowly turn your head to the left with your arms outstretched. Hold and then repeat with the other side. These are both good, cool down, stretches for your back and also your tummy muscles. I think even if we are not doing strenuous exercise its still good to stretch our muscles and relax them, especially if we're feeling tense x
This too shall pass.
