« on: June 11, 2012, 07:43:29 PM »
i had a therapy session today, it was rather emotional and upsetting, 1 of my main problems is that i feel so lonely, are there any groups that any of u are part of in ur local areas so u can meet others who have suffered with similar problems?

Thanks guys

Hi Daryl, do you have a local MIND centre near you (you can use your search engine to find your nearest) they offer many group services.  I have used them several times.

If you google depression support groups (or similar) you might find something, I did and found several but unfortunately too far away to get to

I have just finished my counselling with them and was so helpful to me, but that was a one to one.  I have done a Self Assertiveness course and a Depression and Anxiety course.  Both course were good and free as well.   There were about 5 of us on each course and we all suffered with depression in one way or another.  The people that took the courses also had suffered with depression so understood how we were all feeling.  Its very informal.  I am quite quiet/shy but found it quite easy to open up as we were all in the same boat as such.

Hope this helps Daryl, please feel free to ask anything else and I will help if I can  :).

I really hope that the counselling helps you.  Its quite normal to get quite emotional about things you talk about during sessions.

Just have a chat with them when you next go or give them a ring and ask what else they have to offer.

Depression is horrible and scarey Daryl. Do you take any medication for depression?

I have been takin fleuxetine 20mg daily, but it doesn't seem to be helping me much,
i'm worried about going onto a higher dosage because of the side effects, the effects i have atm are annoying as it is.

Have u been on anything then?

Yes I have and still taking meds, now on Duloxetine.  The reason I ask is that maybe its worth having a chat with your dr about changing your meds, I had to try several before they could find one that worked for me.  You are doing the right thing by having counselling and maybe a change of meds would be of benefit.

I have been told that yes I probably will.  But that doesn't mean to say you will.  We are all different.  But the way I look at it  is if I had many other condition/illness I would have to take medication to control it.  If it means I am well then I will take them as I hate the way I had been feeling.  I really feel quite 'normal' now.  If there is such a thing as normal  ;)
