Voices/sounds
« on: May 27, 2012, 11:58:52 AM »
It might be nothing but I am sure I am starting to hear voices.  Yesterday evening I was talking a walk to the shop, sober but in a very anxious state of mind, when I heard 'they're gonna get you!'.  I looked around, no-one there.  This happened a couple more times and when I got home I kept hearing scratching noises.  It wasn't my cat as she was asleep beside me.  I am really scared!  Am I going mad?  Also I keep have very vivid dreams about music.  I hear beautiful piano pieces in my sleep that I have never heard before but can't remember them when I am awake.  Beethoven is trying to compose through me.

That's really intreresting to read. I have never heard 'voices' as such. But I have created some really good music in my dreams. When I have woken i can remember the music and lyrics to such a point I have even looked them up on the internet to see if they are an actual song!

I agree though, the gp should know about it. I am slowly learning that things need to be talked about whether it's on or off the record.

I occasionally hear voices, usually when I'm very tired or half asleep. There are two different types for me.

One is more common and it is clear to me that it's my internal monologue, but just sometimes it gets ahead of me so that I still feel it's not coming from me. It can drone on and on in a structured but seemingly meaningless way. Having said it's meaningless, sometimes I get the sense it's very meaningful. Occasionally it's provoded me with the types of dreams and experiences described by staralfur, where I 'hear' songs or stories and actually thin they're quite good. Wish I could remember them though.

The other is where I hear a sudden shout, often my name, or a disembodied phrase, in a voice I don't recognise. The phrase can be very everyday, not usually something nasty, and sometimes I feel I might be tuning in to other people's thoughts or something.

I can identify with what Sallas says there.

I hear noises and sometimes voices aswell. It only ever happens when I am very tired. Sometimes at night I get very distressed as I can't sleep and need to. I often hear what sound kind of like someone mowing their lawn (its not but its kind of hard to describe) its a wirring sort of droning sound that goes on forever. If I try to listen harder I can't hear it, this keeps me awake even longer and I know its not really there because no one else can hear it.

I also swear I hear someone saying my name, I will be half asleep and then be woken by what sounds like a child calling me. On several occasions I thought it was my sister outside my bedroom but she has never been there.  But then you never know, maybe I'm not imagining it, don't say that I believe in all that paranormal stuff but it is odd.

Every bit of information you can give your doctor will help with a diagnosis

Don't worry, nothing will happen to you. I only suggested that you mention these from the point of view that you should give your doctor as complete a picture of your symptoms as possible, to make sure you get the right help. :)

These experiences may mean nothing, or they may contribute to the wider picture. I'm not an expert so I wouldn't know. Didn't mean to worry you though - take care :)

Medication can sometimes bring on these types of things...for example, my painkillers intially had the side effect that I would see things (like mice, rats, spiders etc) scurrying across the floor and the walls.

It doesn't happen as much now, but still the odd time...I just watch them now rather than wonder what it is!!
