advice for depression
« on: May 14, 2012, 12:01:28 PM »
hello, as some of you know I am currently on medication in my battle for depression, i am on jobseekers allowance at the moment but with my problems I do not feel able to work at this time, is there an alternative benefit that anyone knows of that I can be placed on until I get into a better state of mind?

I'm just wondering if they recognise depression as a problem? Thank you
Daryl

I had a quick look online and it seems that it's all changed since I was last off work with depression.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Illorinjured/DG_188859

I suspect they're clamping down on who can get this benefit too but I would contact your Jobcentre to find out.

Oh wow, i used to work at jobcentre plus on the incapacity benefit section, i ddn't know they were doing away with it, but that's by the by.

I would deffo look into what you can get, if your on jobseekers that that states that you are capable of working and seeking a job, if you are off with depression you are not capable of work, trust me i spent 6 months on JS when i sould have been on incap and having to go to the jobcentre every fortnight was the most hideous thing for me, make sure you ask cos trust me they wont tell you you have to ask for it.

Good luck.

Employment and Support Allowance is the latest benefit available - seems quite easy to claim.
