Can you help me ?
« on: January 20, 2012, 11:32:08 PM »
I am not sure whats going on. I have been to the doctors who sent me for emergency counselling with the crisis team (this was the week before last) . I have been to see them and have had a  meeting to discuss a plan . It was decided that CBT couldn't work for me so they are arranging face to face counselling.

The doctor has told me she wants to see me weekly for the next few weeks then back to fortnightly appointments. But in the meantime I have been given several numbers to call if I start having "thoughts" again.

Everyone has been great . Caring and supportive ready to listen I am very very lucky. But I dont know whats wrong with me. My fit notes say anxiety and depression. But I know thats just general terminology.

Am I suffers from general depression ? Major depression, SAD, PND, Bi-Polar or am I just a little down and blowing it all out of proportion ?

How do I know ? If I don't know how can I get better ?

Will I ever find out ?

Argh I don't know why its important I guess I just need to know what I am fighting .

I think thats the hardest thing, putting it down in words with regards to how do you feel.
suffering from anxiety and depression to me can tick my own boxes. but with that i can also add SAD, night terrors, and some other words that i have now forgotton.
I just say i have depression. because the word depression can cover everything related to this illness.
Hopefully over time your doctor and health workers will tick which box applys to you. But i think as far as getting better what ever you have will be treated as they see fit to treat it.
if you see what i mean.

I do have a couple of links that you could look at. That may help you. If you would like me to pm them to you do say.

You are asking many questions of yourself and although i understand your need for answers, you must try to be patient with yourself. Getting an accurate diagnosis will take time and you will go through high and low feelings whilst you are waiting for things to be made clear. Sometimes there are no clear answers to be had.

Try to take things a day at a time if you can. Face one challenge at a time and give yourself extra space to cope with the outcome of each. Dont be so hard on yourself when you feel got at and remember you have an ilness that is contributing to how you struggle with things.

Most impotantly, dont feel alone. We will be here for you any time you need to talk.

Take care.

took me 14 months to find out i had severe depression, and that came in a report from a professor which i could't be bothered to read, it took a bloody  barrister to point it out in a meeting i had with them.  "£$ i said i had no idea, have I, 34 page report and at the back the summery there it was in black and white, well bloody boo hoooooooo,

this was news to me. and it's going to be news to my councilor when i see them next,

i did not even know what i had when it was probably told to me and written in a report, bloody hell that's bad for me you need a 50 foot sign put in front of me.

taking it one step at a time maybe i can get some help.

Harmful intentions
particularly those involving deliberate acts exploitation, seem to cause longer-lasting and more painful emotional consequences than natural disasters. The crucial factor may be that such experiences destroys people’s trust in others, particularly if they involve someone you have depended on.
