Just got back from the Dr's
« on: January 10, 2012, 05:54:37 PM »
I just got back. My appointment was 20 minutes late as my GP had been sent on an emergency call out. We talked about how I was feeling and I  showed her the note my head of year gave me today explaining about the counselling. I didn't get an official diagnosis, and apparently she can't prescribe me any medication either. It has to be done at this other place. Instead I have been sent for more blood tests, she said she doesn't think they will show any changes from the last ones though, but it won't hurt to do them again. She is going to write to this place about the counselling but she thinks they won't accept because it haven't been through the school system. She is also sending a copy of the letter to my head of year. If she hadn't been so nice to me and everything I would have said it wasn't a very good appointment :(

That sounds a very strange way of doing things but if thats the only way you can get a diagnosis and treatment that seems the only way to go xx

Thanks x

I'm kind of scared actually. In the box where it says what your are testing for it says about celiac and glucose but it also says something about bone. Isn't that what they test when they think you have leukemia? She didn't think it was anything serious but she might of been trying to not frighten me :/

Try not to worry, sounds like the normal blood tests they run.  I have to have an MOT every year and have blood tests done.  We are all the same and our minds go into overdrive.

Take care x x

I work as a nurse and I can assure you that its just routine.

The doctor has listened to how you feel and needs to rule out certain illnesses. The tests they are doing will most likely be to show that there is nothing seriously wrong instead of finding something that is. Sometimes they need to get certain 'markers' before they can prescribe some medications - liver function is a common one. When they know all is well, they can proceed with appropriate treatment.

If this is really worrying you, then ring them first thing and ask the receptionist what the tests were for. Its your blood and you are entitled to know why any tests have been carried out  ;)

Try not to worry too much about the blood tests, I have had a load done too, I think Drs just like to see whats going on as Glen said. The bone test u are thinking of is a bone profile test, I think they test for mineral difficiency from these, mine came back saying I had low calcium and vit d levels and now on a supplement to boost these and its going up slowly but its getting there, so please try not to worry too much. If you really are worried then as Glen said you can always give the surgery a call to put your mind at ease. x

I've had the full rage of blood tests too... diabetes, thyroid, bone density, aneamia... probably others which I wasn't aware of. Please try not to worry, I think its all par for the course, so many illnesses can carry the same symptoms of depression its just a case of ruling things out xx
This too shall pass.

Thanks everyone, that does seem to make more sense. If my GP had thought it was anything serious I think she probably would have told me.

I spoke to my head of year today about what had happened and how worried I was about it and she said she would look into everything for me.
