sorry to say some meds do make you numb to all emotions but that can pass after a few weeks, but sadly doesn't always pass
If you think things can't get worse it's probably only because you lack sufficient imagination.

Just nothing makes sense even after 8 months I still don't know what she feels or when she is lieing about what's going on .I feel like a mate who loves his friend . Spending money seems to make her happy since she has stopped taking the night meds and that is becoming a problem.but on her self and not food or kids .

I do tend to indulge in retail therapy when I'm depressed but not to the detriment of others

It sounds like she is trying to make herself feel better with material things. In a way this is good, but misplaced. She has identified that she needs to feel better, and is doing somthing about trying to make this happen. Albeit not ideal.

Both depression and antidepressants can numb feelings. look up anhedonia. It is explanatory, but sad.

Not sure if it helps. Not told anyone about what I have done recently. For the past two weeks I have stopped taking my meds, mirtazapine 30mg. This was my decision and after being on them for about 3 months I felt that I was getting no where. I found that I had lost all emotion and was always tearful one minute and angry the next. Even threw things at my wife on one occasion. Since stopping the meds, my dr was against this but still doesn't know, I still feel tearful and depressed but maybe not to the same degree. The real benefits are that I now feel more with it and less angry.

I am not too sure if I want to try something else as I feel that I have lost 3 months of my life and I am worried what my dr will say. I still feel that there is a role for antidepressants but don't agree that all antidepressants will suit everyone. I certainly dont recommend that anyone stops their meds without speaking to their dr first. I know what I did was stupid but I felt that I had no choice.

Depression can make your feelings numbed, but it can also be a side effect of medications for some people. If it only came on when she started the meds, then it's most likely connected to the meds and not the depression. She should definitely speak to her doctor about this, as there may be a medication that could work better for her.

Some anti depressants can numb your emotions. Basically the meds are designed to alter chemical imbalances, but in some people this can lead to other 'imbalances'. A person can appear uncharacteristically selfish or appear like a 'zombie' to those who know them well.

If this is the case with her, she will not necessarily have noticed that she is hurting others through her actions. As Lol says she is simply trying to make herself feel better however she can.

Either way, Im certain that her actions are not intended to cause offense or harm to you or the children. Do you talk to her about your worries? A simple chat can sometimes help, just remember to be calm if you do. This disease is so cruel. When you are the sufferer you end up hurting others in one way or another - either by appearing miserable or by doing the wrong things when we feel low. You are not wrong in how you feel, but niether is she. There is nobody to blame and that can be hard.

When im depressed I find I go quiet. When Im on meds i talk more, but I find Im more 'selfish' with my actions. Its all about me for some reason and I feel got at if my wife finds any critisism - even if she puts it REALLY politely! I do listen though, and always try to take on board what she says.

All you can do is be there for her.

I wish you both all the best with your fight against this disease.

It is a tribute to you that you are trying to understand it. Others don't, sometimes this is why things fall apart. You are giving your wife and your self the best chance.
