Last night i was sat here minding my own business when someone in my block started hammering or some such on the walls,i was annoyed slightly but then the tennant of the place below knocked on my door and blamed me for the noise and when i protested my innoscence they didnt believe me and  said if did it again theyd kill me

Thats really rather nasty and frightening, could you speak to the landlord or even phone the police?

I would have phoned the police straight off but at the time i was to terrified to do so and felt that involving the police would have aggravated the problem further,the person who threatened me was raided by the police a few months ago and not someone it is wise to anger.

It being xmas im not sure if the council ( my lamdlords) are available but its really getting to me and i have barely eaten all day with the worry

The only thing you can do is try to forget about the incident for now. If they have been in trouble recently I doubt very much they would want to get the fuzz after them again.

2 Choices:
If the banging happens again, turn off all your lights, tv etc and just sit quietly for a bit. Hopefully the guy who is really making the noise will make it when the guy is on the warpath. If not then he will think you are out and wont blame you for the noise anymore.
second choice:
Find the guy who is banging on the walls the next time he does it and direct the nutter to him.

I agree the police may be a bad idea, but if he threatens you again you may have to get them involved.

A large part of the problem is that they nor i know where the noise is coming from,they have got it into there head that im the source of the noise

Yes, but if the noise occurs and you are 'not in' then it cant be you

UPDATE:Today they kicked off again at someone else in my block - i assume it was someone else

I have barely eaten all day and am self medicating with  $%$ $%$ $%$

Wil go to council tuesfay an throw myself at the mercy of the housing dept but im not hopefull at the twats shwoing any sympathy

This is an awful situation. You are afraid  I think you did the right thing to lay low and cower in your bed. Things wont always be like this. You will get out of there and feel safer. In the mean time you are dong the right thing. Keep yourself to yourself and lock your doors.

Went to see my gp today to ask him for a letter to take to housing dept which i hope will help my case,he also put me on meds-citilopram to try help my depression/anxiety.

Also contacted the housing dept to ask for an appointment explaining my emergency issues and they said the person i needed to speak to wasnt available but they took my number saying thyed get back to me in 24 hrs-still waiting 

So here i am sat in the dark trying not to seem as if im in and hoping the prick who threatened me dont kick off again

I have another suggestion and that's to ask the council for diary sheets and obviously explain why.  This will also go in your favour as they will see a written record of all the problems you are having with neighbours. 

We did this several years ago as we had a problem neighbour to the extent that the police were involved.  He was threatening us and the next door neighbours but accused us of causing the problems.  What he didn't know was that the housing association had put cctv in our hpme and informed the police.  Dueto the evidence we got we were moved to a better area,

Called housing association again today after they never got back to me

They asked again why i didnt call the police-(im scared to get themm involved for fear of reprisals)

I was told i need to present myself to the council as life in danger-which i pretty much am-but without police involvement no one seems to want to listen to me 

Where will this all end ??-when will i feel safe ???

I too think you need to keep a diary of some sort and if you really dont want the police involved keep hassling Athe housing association.

Have you thought of getting in contact with the CAB for advice?

I went to local police station to report the incedent explaining i dont want to press charges for fear of reprisals and all the bizzie could say was that without doing so i cant get a crime number to take to the housing dept 

So-even the police cant help me

Housing association did leave me a message saying that if i wanted to register a complaint re nuisance neighbors to get in touch but given the couldnt care less if i dont want to point the finger attitude i dont see where it will get me
