DOES A LABEL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER
« on: December 09, 2011, 04:42:42 AM »
When to doctor say your depressed does it make you feel better, for me i couldn't give a toss, giving a toss would be heavenly as i suspect i would feel again i can only take so much empathy then i go into meltdown, everything has to be right for me to cope, and empathy is way down the list, what i want is peace in my head and power in my body again, i feel i have no control anymore, reach for the \meds

BTW hate these smileys at the posting bit how do you turn them off there are so ******* annoying.

like fruit machines hate them too, i see people mesmerised by them pouring money in for what , to get what , be lost in a mess if colors

Harmful intentions
particularly those involving deliberate acts exploitation, seem to cause longer-lasting and more painful emotional consequences than natural disasters. The crucial factor may be that such experiences destroys people’s trust in others, particularly if they involve someone you have depended on.

The first time I was dagnosed it was a relief to know what was wrong with me, now I go and tell the GP when I feel it creeping up again, I dont tend to feel its a label any more than I would if I had the flu or a heart condition, its an illness like any ther illness, albeit a horrible one :(

Didnt make me feel any better having some sort of label... only thing that mattered was that the GP actually recognised something instead of fobbing me off.

No... it doesnt make me feel better at all. It was a relief to realise that I wasn't weird or disturbed by having the thoughts I did and to realise that so many other people are going through what I am (very much in a back-handed way) but I would rather 'depression' 'anxiety' and 'mental illness' didn't apply to me.

I don't think you can disable smileys... There is an option in 'additional options' just below where you write your post to not use smileys - but it doesnt seem to get rid of them at the top.

Nay x
This too shall pass.

I have been diagnosed with all kinds of things by various psychiatrists/consultants, which has been very confusing. First depression and anxiety, then clinical depression, then treatment resistant depression, then severe depression, then psychotic depression, then Bi Polar, then Bi polar 2 which is the latest. When i spoke to my ex GP, she told me that the latest diagnosis was incorrect as she felt that i wasn't bi polar because i'd be bragging about it if i was? I can't win!!!

I dont like being labelled with depression because the truth is most people hear depression and dont want to get involved because they think you are miserable. Thats my experience anyway.

Bragging about being bi-polar? Get a new doctor.

I did get a new doctor, one that was compassionate and understanding, but she's left the practice :( I hope they replace her soon with someone just as understanding who has experience in mental health.

i think it helped me, it actually was a medical problem rather then just me going mad and being useless! It explained a lot to me even though i hadf no idea at that point that everything i was diong/feeling was the illness, the best words my consultant used were, "its an illness, like the flu, and it can be treated, like the flu, but just takes a little longer!"

it helped enormously that it can be treated and that everything going on in my head was not my fault.

I was diagnosed with depression and borderline personality disorder about five years ago and at the time I was relieved that I'd found what was wrong with me. I felt quite secure after being given the 'label'. A few years later a different psychiatrist refused to give me a diagnosis, saying that she was worried it would stop me from getting better and that I'd find some sort of comfort in being labelled.
At the time I took the view that how can I get better if I don't know what's wrong with me. Looking back on it now she was probably right, although I still feel very frustrated at the thought of not knowing what's going on. As if I'm in some sort of limbo.

i look at it like this if life is draining you like a battery on a car, even when it's stood still and leftover night, if you do not find the cause you just keep on replacing the battery and never finding the fault, till of course you run out of battery's, then your stuck.
