I am increasingly convinced that GPs are rubbish.
Thankfully I was referred to a psychologist by my dermatology team
He has written to my GP surgery about three times now asking them to refer me for counselling of some sort. No response so I made an appointment to talk about his last letter.
1 - I saw a locum who asked me about 4 questions, looked at me twice and spent most of the time I was there reading the letter.
2 - she didn't understand what IAPT is but didn't do anything to find out - didn't ask other staff, didn't look it up.
3 - she said I was not severe enough to warrant a referral from her
4 - she didn't understand why the psychologist did refer me on (he's the other side of London at the hospital so I assume he wanted me to get a local counsellor)
5 - she said she would have to call the psychologist and sent me away.

I@ve only just transferred to this surgery as my last Dr left me on a trial dose (ie non therapeutic) of antidepressant for5 years

What can you do if your doctors won't help?
Tea please, decaf, with milk and a sweetener.

hello laura
i'm sorry you have had such a negative experience with your gp and i'm sure there is plenty of advice on the net but please do not give up sometimes you do have to push a little it's hard enough to deal with depression and other conditions without having to fight the people who are supposed to help us please keep faith and try

I did investigate complaining about my previous GP but I had no support from friends and family so let it slide and now it's too late.
Having no energy to do the basics in life means fighting the system is just beyond me.

Hi, I can't believe what's happened to my doctor. I went from one surgery where the doctor was vile and found a doctor who was very understanding, however I called to see her again and she's left the practice! I've been told I'll have to see a locum doctor instead :( however the receptionist assured me that I'd be ok as all my information was held on a computer, but that does t take away the fact that I'll have to explain everything again! >:(

Its horrid when that happens but you may not have to explain everything again if its on the computer, whens your appointment?
