I thought it described this horrible affliction brilliantly too.  It was a link attached to a story about Gary Speed's apparent suicide.  You can seemingly have everything, yet be in such despair...

...well yes, in the same way rich people get cancer also. Stephen Fry, an utter genious, wealthy, succesful, but he tried killing himself a few times. Thank god he didn't succeed.

Thank you for sharing that it's so nice not to feel alone isn't it, but I don't think someone who has never suffered with depression will ever understand it. You really get so much of the 'cheer up', 'stop being so miserable', 'it's not the end of the world' (and the list goes on) phrases from people who simply think you're just a bit boring or whiney. I can't express how much that winds me up and just like he said all we need is understanding, non judgemental, caring and someone to just be there. Deep reading that.

My knowledge of popular culture is shockingly poor. My attempt at anything mainstream was short lived at best.  :o
