Instant coffee stains and LED lights
« on: May 20, 2016, 03:14:41 PM »
I've just discovered an instant coffee stain that didn't come out last time I washed it on my favourite t-shirt... does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of it please?

Also, when the electrician came out to fix our hallway and kitchen lights yesterday, he said that we should consider getting LED light bulbs instead... does anyone have any experience with them please?  They seem to only come in 5 or 10 watts instead of the 40 or 60 watts that we're used to so surely it's pointless having them isn't it??

Hi Amanda, firstly the LED lighhts, the wattage is the power they use, the brightnes of the light is measured in Lumens, I use a few of them around the place, and you can get rails from places like B&Q that hold 4 or more LED bulbs, so even 4 x 10 watt LED bulbe is only drawing 40 watts of power, but giving the brightness of around that of a 75 watt bulb you know, also the ones on a rail from B&Q tilt and swivel, allowing you to shine light where you need / want it. you can also get them in a veriety of colours. look on ebay for the bulbe. also, LED lights will last MUCH longer than a standard bulb.

Now, as for the coffee stain as it has been washed it might not work so well, but for fresh stains, try carbonated (fizzy) water, soak the stain in it, (just use a bowl or the like so only soak the stain,) then wast it as normal a little later

Have you tried Vanish for the stain?

The cheapest place I have found to buy it is in Pundstretcher where I pay £5 for a large tub.  Soak the t-shirt in hot or warm water - I generally do this overnight but you can check on the t-shirt after about half an hour.  I have been told peroxide is also a good way to get stubborn stains out of clothes.

We use LED lights as well and they are well worth the money.

Thank you both so much!  We got 2 LED bulbs delivered with the grocery shopping yesterday so we'll give them a go when the light bulbs next pop   :happy0158:

With the stain, Pip, we'll have to get the vanish with next week's shopping!  Hadn't thought of that!   :D
