hey I'm new, here to meet new friends
« on: July 16, 2013, 06:48:02 PM »
hey everyone, I'm stacie I'm 22 and from belfast, iv suffered from depression and anxiety for over 6 years now and seem to be getting worse, I'm here to meet new friends, get advice and chat to people who understand what it's like to suffer from depression. I don't know anyone else with depression so will be interesting to talk to people who actually understand what I'm going through, this is my first time on a forum so I'm a little lost  :chin: anyway I look forward to getting to know everyone

Hi there. 6 years is long time to be suffering depression and anxiety when you are only 22. You don't mention what stage you're at with treatment. I would hope
after 6 years that you are well into the system.

It isn't a bad time to be treated for anxiety. Using anti-epileptic drugs to try and cope with anxiety is  becoming increasingly popular. It is virtually impossible to offer anything concrete without knowing what your treatment history has been. I am 40 years older than you and it still upsets me to hear of people your age having to cope with depression. Maybe you could say a little more about the treatment you've received ?
Sometimes the light is shining on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange, trip it's been

Hi Stacie,

My name is Olivia and I'm 23. I hate to say it but my depression started when I was about 11 (I got bullied, never told anyone and ended up very lonely and with very low self esteem). Anyway, welcome! I hope you managed to find some comfort here. What's your situation in life at the moment?

thanks guys for replying, was diagnosed with anxiety first and started on propranolol a very mild dose, throughout the years I never really got much help, any time I went to doc they just prescribed more useless meds that had no effect, depression got bad about 2 years ago and was referred to psycharist, was on many different anti depressants (fluxatine was one of the main ones) and was prescribed anti psychotics which made me feel very drowsy, stoped all meds and treatment last year as I felt I didn't wana be on them anymore and did fine for good few months but recently before Xmas I got really really bad and got referred to another psycharists which has now tried 4 different meds in space of 3 months as some have no effect or leave me feeling very ill, was prescribed agomelatine to help me sleep, they are great but don't help with mood and anxiety, last anti depressant was sertraline but didn't have much effect so psycharist stoped and started me on a new med for anxiety it's called pregabalin it's an anti epilepsy drug and iv just started taking today, hopefully will help but not sure if it will help with depression and low mood, kinda feel all over place with meds as I can't find any that help with mood and anxiety, feels like nothing works, recently been through a very very bad emotional relationship which has knocked me off feet and left me feeling dangerously low, last few days felt unbareable , currently off sick from work, I work in retail and finding it tough with my illness, hopefully that will give you good idea about myself  :-\

Bullying seems to have major repercussions, something these kids don't seem to realize. I was also bullied as a child throughout my time at school, this meant I had to leave and give up opportunities for GCSE's and also lost the social aspect. It just makes everything that much harder and to some extent there feels to be a need of proving myself all the time. I also work in retail so understand how tough it can be, I'm lucky though as my boss seems to understand and accommodates the best he can. It sounds like you have been through a lot on the medication front, I hope you manage to find one that works for you. We're all here to try and help :)
