newbie here
« on: March 02, 2013, 11:23:16 AM »
Hi, :)
I'm not on meds, but I think I'm going to talk to a doctor soon, because its getting kind of bad, It's just the whole doctor concep scares me haha, I get really anxious talking to people about it, because what if I don't have depression, what if I'm just really sad sometimes :/ and I'm scared that he won't take it serious, my last councellor, passed me a long to a higher up, who spoke to me over the phone, then sent a letter letting me know that since I hadn't been in touch that the councilling was canceled, I dunno haha long story short, I'm new and I tend to waffle XD sorry ^_^

Hi and welcome,

When you see your doctor just be honest how you're feeling.  He may get you to fill out a short form to get an idea of where you're 'at'.  If it's anything like the one I filled in I had to give each point a number between 1 - 5 and was able to give a basic assessment based on my score.  I already knew I suffer with depression as I had been assessed back in 2005 but hadn't suffered too badly for several months nor was I on medication for depression.  When I saw my doctor I was feeling very low so going on my history of depression and how I was feeling on that day he was able to give me appropriate help.  Don't worry about what happened over counselling just be honest with your doctor.

hi tears, and welcome to the forums,
it can indeed be scary, and as you will see here on the forums, not just for people who have been newly diagnosed with depression,

we are all a great bunch here and will offer help if we can, and if you are perscribed any medication and you want to know how it works and makes you feel, just ask and im sure members will have insight to the meds.

Hello and welcome. Yes it is scary, but your Dr will understand. There are many people suffering. Maybe it would help to write down a few things about how you are feeling. Then if you are unable to talk you can hand the Dr what you have written. I was a quivering wreck when I first went to the Dr.

We are a friendly bunch here and we all support one another.

Hi.

just to echo what others have said.  it is scary, but you're not the first, and you won't be the last.   I had to guard against underplaying how I felt, so be absolutely honest about how low you feel.

we're all here. and we've been there, so you're among people who understand.

:)

Often, the thought of talking to the GP is more difficult than the reality, especially if it is the first time you have mentioned depression.

We are all here to listen.  I hope you enjoy the Forum
