If you fancy reading some Buddhist Sutras, Holybooks.com contains masses which are all in the public domain. You can either search for individual ones that you seek or download a “mega pack†which has hundreds of the things in its various sections. The Mega pack link is.

I wonder if people post-depression experience a kind of enlightenment, that's the impression I get anyway. Like you survive it, and then your eyes are open thereafter.

I think you’re right. The difference between a depression and a spiritual Dark Night of the Soul doesn’t seem that great to me sometimes.

That is great Steve thanks. I read this kind of stuff all the time. Intensely interesting. have you read much of the stuff written about Lamrim?
-
I haven’t read much about Lamrim. I read the Wikipedia article on it and followed some of the links. One of them led to a sort of map of the process. One of the things you had to acquire was the notion that consciousness is an illusion. That isn’t my view at all, I am a very old fashioned Cartesian Dualist. So I didn’t pursue it further. Do you think it’s worth it ?

No I don't think its worth it. I meditate, I read Dharma, I go to the temples, I listen, join in, enjoy, but believe little of it. Remember that I am a scientist.
It is a cultural exploration for me. The healthy aspects I incorporate into my life.
