Feeling better then worse
« on: October 22, 2011, 01:00:55 PM »

Hello,

I have been suffering from depression for at least two years, and have had good patches and bad patches through this time. I have been suffering from very bad depression these last three months. However, over last week end, I becgan to feel very possitive. I started to forget about the past, started lookig forward to the future. I began liking myself, started becoming extroverted. I went out drinking meeting people and having a good time. I thought I was better again. This lasted abotu 5 or 5 days. Then I went downhill and by Friday I was lying in bed, had no motivation, no sense of a future, feeling tired and horribly deoressed.

Does anyone else experience this? I have seen people with hypomania and they were notably 'high'. I don't feel as though I was like this and I wouldn't class it as a manic episode, just a tempoary releif of symtoms. But I am confused as to how I could slipp so badly bad into depression so quickly

I think you possibly just overdid things Stevie, its fairly common to go out and have a good time then feel dreadful for a few days unfortunately :(

Even when you feel better its very necessary to pace yourself - for instance I feel very energetic this afternoon but as I know Ive done a lot this morning I am forcing myself to rest because I know if I dont then I'll go downhill with a big bump :(

Take it easy for a few days if you can and see if things improve, if not I'd suggest you go back to your GP and have a word with him

xx

Hi
I understand what you mean,I don't understand these ups and downs either. I have found recently that my mood is more stable but my medication was put up about 3 weeks ago and for 3 days I have felt better, but I don't know, I could suddenly go down again for no reason, that is what is so annoying with this 'cause it is hard to know how you will be from one day to the next. I can feel good in the morning  then bad in the afternoon. Agh
drives me mad  >:(
Hugs XXXX

Yes, it is indeed strange how you can be ok for a time, and then all the positivenes just disapears

Stevie this is such a disheartening phase isn't it? I think the best thing to think if you possibly can is that, being kind of cyclical as you describe, happiness and productivity will come around again. Zaf is a fantastic example of this; when you read her posts you can see (and see that she can see) what's going to happen next because she has such a handle on how her illness reacts to anything she does! I find Zaf an absolute inspiration that this is a conquorable, managable illness and she obviously has expert discipline which she has learned (the hard way) through time. We can all learn a lot from that, and once through the WTF? stage, one can, as Zaf dilligently demonstrates, sort of 'outsmart' it. Journals can help with this.

Sorry Zaf if I have embarrassed you there with a super a** kissing post,  :-[ but honestly, sometimes I don't think you could possibly realise just how much you help us all. Thank you so much!  :)

No problem lol, your last comment made me smile :)  I didnt realise I was that much help, especially when I'm down and having a bit of a moan about it....

Well even if it was everybody needs a moan sometimes and it is perfectly acceptable to have a good one in here.

I am feeling that way at the moment. I was feeling better, the doc upped my anti ds and now i feel worse. I guess the extra dosage wont work for another week and a half at least. I went back to work which is stressful. I was asked by someone why I was off which was really hard. When I tell people I have depression I always feel they are judging me.  Plus a  whole load of things going on including my sister going in hospital again. I am finding it really hard to cope and getting really down again.

I think it is about not doing things too soon and pacing yourself which I can't do at the moment.

Hugs steve hope you feel better soon

Its really frustrating and disheartening when we know we need to pace ourselves and simply cant due to life throwing all sorts of stuff at us :(

Hope things improve for you soon xx

It does seem somtimes that just when you get on top of one thing there is suddenly something else on the horizon to challenge us.

Some people go through life so effortlessly!  "£$

Hi Lol
I know what you mean, some people sail through life with a smile on their face---and don't get the knockbacks others get. and if they do they seem to deal with them and move on. Agh  >:(
Some of it must be in our 'make up' not just lifes ups and downs. I don't know really   ::) ???

"£$ this sums up the feeling for me really.
I have a few months of feeling brilliant and like life is back on track and then all of a sudden this deep pit of depression opens up and sucks me in. life becomes a struggle again and all the happiness goes away.

unfortunatelly there is nothing I can do as my condition is genetic. I take the meds, I do the therapy, I see my psychiatrist once a month and its still not enough.

I envy so much the people that seem to just stride through life so effortless and do so well whilst we struggle everyday to even drag ourselves out of the house or to do an everyday task. all we can do is fight and not let it destroy us!!
