Has anyone used Lustral (sertraline) before
« on: May 20, 2011, 11:40:17 AM »
I have recently been prescribed Lustral (Sertraline).  Has anyone been on this before?  Took the first tablet yesterday.  I found sleep was very restless and felt drowsy.  Did you find that you had the same symptoms?  I was warned by the doctor that I would probably feel worse for the first few days.  I also didn't know you weren't able to drink alcohol.  It was lucky that my aunty mentioned it to me.  Didn't seem to say anything on the instructions etc but found on a website that it is recommended not to drink alcohol while taking them.

Hi Deb, I have been prescribed sertaline 50mg last week, I am also taking this on top of Mertrazpine45mg, and I also take medication to help me sleep.  I am nearly afraid to say this but my form the past few days has been great.  Managed to go to a mates mum's funeral!  Normally my husband pushes me on a daily basis to do the basic, get out of bed,  go out, do something constructive etc, I've really thought I won't get better.

I'm getting my sleep, waking up at a good time in the morning I am bright and energetic. The reason you are advised not to drink is really to do that alcohol can interact with medication, and has a depressing effect the next day.   Â£$£ but I'm partaking in a wee glass of vino ;) tonight.  Give the meds at least 4 weeks, to let them settle in although if you have any destructive thoughts let your Dr know.  Take care

Oh right.  I was advised by the doctor that it would take between 2-6 weeks for it to work.

As I said you need to give them 4 weeks, I have already been on Mertrazapine for 10 months and the sertraline have been added on top by my physchiatrist to help, as I said I am nearly afraid to say but the past 2 days have been really the best I have felt for a long time.  Here's hoping as I am so sick of all this "£"

hiya. i,m on sertraline. i have been on it about for three months now. i,m on the maximum dose of 100mg. it doesn,t really seem to be having a positive effect for me. i go back to the doctors in a month to review it with the possibility of returning me to citalapram. i havn,t suffered any adverse side effects with the sertraline, but we are all different and certain medications suit us whilst others don,t. it could be the depression that is effecting your sleep patterns, i know i suffer from very restless sleep, tossing and turning all night  and awakening more tired than i went to bed and that was long before i was put on sertraline. its not advisible to drink whilst taking any antidepressant as alcohol is a depressant. most antidepressant take about 4 to 6 weeks before they start to work. so give them a wee bit longer to see if you start to improve. good luck x

I was on 50mg for about 8 months after being on citalapram.  I then had a really down period about 4 weeks ago which I'm still going through.  My doctor upped it to 100mg, but to be honest I've not felt much of a difference apart from feeling like a space cadet.  :-\
