Violence has broken out at an illegal rave as police were called to disburse it just 24 hours after a similar event in Brixton.  Kensington and Chelsea Police officers have confirmed they are at the scene of an unlicensed music event in London.  Scotland Yard said objects have been thrown at officers dispersing the crowd at an event at Colville Gardens, Notting Hill.  Kensington and Chelsea Police tweeted: "Officers are at the scene of an unlicensed music event near Colville Gardens, W11.  Objects have been thrown at officers dispersing the crowd. Violence will not be tolerated & units are responding appropriately.  This gathering is illegal & we ask anyone in attendance to leave."

Met Police said the majority of people attending the rave have been dispersed, but officers remain at the scene.  Multiple police vans were also seen in Streatham Common, south London, tonight after another party in the area.  The rave was broken up but no violence has been reported.  Lambeth Police tweeted: "Officers are currently at Streatham Common where an unlicensed music event is taking place.  They have engaged with a large number of those in attendance and the crowd has now almost entirely dispersed."

The Met Police yesterday confirmed they would be stepping up policing operations across London tonight following reports of unlicensed music events, block parties, and raves set to take place.  The illegal parties come just 24 hours after a street party in south London descended into chaos as police were pelted with missiles in clashes that left 22 officers injured.  Footage on social media showed police vehicles being smashed up by vandals during the confrontation with a large and "very hostile" crowd near the Angell Town estate in Brixton.  Police were called to Overton Road after reports of an unlicensed music event and were attacked as they attempted to disperse the crowd.  Footage on social media showed police vehicles smashed and officers pelted with bottles during clashes with a large crowd, with Downing Street condemning the scenes as "appalling" and Home Secretary Priti Patel calling the incident "utterly vile".  Scotland Yard said in a statement on Facebook late on Thursday that its officers were undertaking an "enhanced policing operation" across the capital.  Commander Bas Javid said extra officers, clad in personal protective equipment, had been called in to ensure there was an "effective and prompt response to any reports or disorder".

He added: "Our role is to keep our communities safe and this evening people can expect to see a heightened police presence out in areas where we know these events are taking place.  This is in direct response to concerns expressed by our communities, many of whom were scared and shocked by the events taking place outside their homes.  We have taken the decision to deploy these additional officers in enhanced personal protective equipment.  We want to reassure communities that this is a precautionary measure for the safety of our officers, and they will continue to engage with the communities they police.  “These officers are specially trained in public order and may have teams from the Dog Support Unit with them.  We cannot accept the levels of violence that were directed towards our officers last night, and the damage caused to public and private property.  Our policing response remains under constant review, and our priority is to keep every one including our officers safe.”
