Sertraline and libido
« on: October 23, 2013, 10:30:43 AM »
Hi all, I joined this site this morning in the hope someone can help. I suffer from depression and social anxiety and am on Sertraline 100mg. It manages my symptoms really well but it's having the side effect of killing my libido. I'm a 43 year old male, I eat healthily and don't drink too much alcohol but at the point of trying to have sex with my wife I can't get or maintain an erection. The fast beating heart and raw excitement just isn't there - I feel like a robot with a flat battery. I find my wife really attractive and sexy (we've only been married 5 months) and she has been amazing about this. I've tried reducing my meds and gradually got down to 25mg but I became ill again. I'm currently trying ginseng and horny goat weed but they aren't helping. We don't have a lot of money so Viagra isn't a real option, so if anyone can offer help or advice I'd be very grateful. Thanks all :-)

Just wanted to let you know I read your post as I can't give advice on this.  Have you spoken to your GP?

Yes I've been to see my gp twice and all he suggested was Viagra, but like I said it's just too expensive. A friend has told me that I can insist on bring referred to the hospital and then I'll get it prescribed free, but I don't know if that's true. It's just frustrating and makes me want to try reducing my meds again but I can't risk being ill. Apparently there's a drug called Wellbutrin used in America that combats the side effects of SSRI's but it's only used for smoking cessation here. Thanks for posting.
