Getting Life Insurance
« on: May 01, 2013, 09:29:50 PM »
Hi everyone, I hope you are all feeling good today.

Does anyone have any experience of getting Life Insurance with Depression?  I have been turned down on the grounds of suicidal thoughts, which I get all the time but never act on them.  According to broker, I have to be thought free for 2 years.

I am just wondering if, from anyones experience, its best to just not be so honest; after all they can't prove what I am thinking can they?

I am generally a SAD person who gets depressed in winter but will inevitably suffer suicidal thoughts before I get to the doctor to get some meds.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

I wouldn't bother telling them, they don't pay out for suicide anyway do they?

It would appear they do or they wouldn't care.  My argument was that as long as I dont die as a result of acting on those thoughts, its not really relevant.  I don't think they saw it that way  :o

Oh I don't know then! I think it's none of their business anyway, thoughts are private and nothing to do with them x

I got life insurance with a history of depression. They did ask me about it and I stated (as was correct at the time) I was worse around anniversaries related to my mums death.
They asked for documentation from my GP which I allowed, but were happy to accept me after that.
I am only me. That is all I can be.
No more, no less, don't second guess.
I love, I live, I laugh, I cry.
I've wished sometimes that I could die.
Some days I'm funny, others I'm not.
Sometimes I'm in overdrive, and I can't stop.
You may not like me, but that's ok, because this is me and how ill stay.
