It just keeps getting worse
« on: October 27, 2012, 12:43:58 AM »
Hi everybody I hope you are all doing ok. I haven't posted in a while now but I've been hit with some bad news and could really do with some support. For thpse of you whom do not know me from prior posts, I'm Jess and i'm 17years old. I've had diabetes for 11 years a kidney disease for 16years and depressoion for as long as I can remember. For the majority of this year I have been dealing with my depression in my own way and have not spoken about it to anybody however I found out a few weeks ago that I am now losing my sight and may well be blind by christmas or early next year. I'm really not sure of how to cope with my situation; my friends do not seem to realise the severity of my diagnosis nor do my parents. I am truly terrified of becoming blind, at the moment I still have good vision out of my left eye however my right eye is basically blind. I've been told that unless my diabetes is better controlled I cannot have the surgery I need to save my sight as the actual surgery itself could cause permenant blindness if an infection occurs.

I could really do with some encouraging words at least while I can still see them.

I hope all is well with everyone else :)

love, Jess x

My heart truly goes out to you,  I wish I was there right now to give you a big cuddle.

BEFORE YOU REACT, THINK
BEFORE YOU SPEND, EARN
BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE, WAIT
BEFORE YOU PRAY, FORGIVE

BEFORE YOU QUIT, TRY

Aww Jess  %^% really feel for you.

Is there not anyone that can help you to managed your diabetes and get it under control?

I am only me. That is all I can be.
No more, no less, don't second guess.
I love, I live, I laugh, I cry.
I've wished sometimes that I could die.
Some days I'm funny, others I'm not.
Sometimes I'm in overdrive, and I can't stop.
You may not like me, but that's ok, because this is me and how ill stay.

Dear Jess, I can sympathise about the problems controlling Diabetes. I have been diabetic for over 35 years, and have never really controlled the problem. I first became diabetic at a time when people were just taken into hospital for a week, told what to do, then released to get on with it. There wasn't really any understanding of how diabetes could affect a 15 year old. I have had sight problems, but luckily I was able to have laser surgery to seal the bleeding vessels at the back of my eyes. The surgery was a bit scary at first - I was awake - but it has helped a lot. I know that it wouldn't be at all easy, you can't just click your fingers and say you will control the illness, but it really is worth trying to get to a point where you can have the surgery. Diabetes and depression do seem to go hand in hand, as the swings in blood sugar can cause mood swings as well. I wish you very good luck, and the strength to give it a go. Good Luck. %^%

Thanks for sharing that with us.  The future must seem so uncertain and I wonder how you cope with that.  Maybe your family and friends do realise the seriousness of your position; they might want to constantly shy away from it, first, because they don't want to see you upset and, two, they're avoiding their own upset.  It must be really stressful for all concerned

I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better.  It must worry you sick to be facing possible surgery on your good eye, but, of course, that carries an enormous risk if anything goes wrong.  I hope you and your Surgeon can find the best route for you.

Pleased you could write about that.  People here will give you as much encouragement and support as we can

Keep us posted.  Best wishes
