Anxiety rather than depression?
« on: May 26, 2010, 08:34:19 PM »
Any other anxiety sufferers on here?

I have been prescribed citalopram which heightens anxiety at first, then the side effects should start to subside and I should start to feel better, hopefully.  Been given prochlorperazine to help with the sickness and temazepam to help with the sleeplessness.  I feel like I am going through hell at the moment, but need to ride out the first few weeks and see if the anti-d's start to help.  I feel horrendous. :-(

Anyone got any tips on managing anxiety, or has anyone been prescribed the same medication as me?  What are your experiences?  Please reply if you can, your help would be much appreciated - even if it means I feel less alone...

I've found that knowing the facts about anxiety itself helps a lot. I got this booklet from my brother that his counsellor gave to him on anxiety, and it tells you some really helpful things. I can't really remember all of the things but if you message me, I could maybe e-mail the file I put on my laptop to you?

+ In the booklet, it tells you to make a 'anxiety ladder' this is where you put you're most feared anxiety situation at the top, and your least feared situation at the bottom, and mentally, as you push yourself to be in the them situations, it is literally like climbing a ladder and when you get to the top you don't feel as scared etc anymore because you know that you can actually deal with the situations!

I would also recommend relaxation techniques, they really work, I can even send you audio clips if you want!
Let me know  :)

Take care xxx
