Looking for Contributors for Documentary
« on: May 31, 2012, 01:31:03 PM »
Hello,

My name is Alex Fisher and I'm part of a small team working on a documentary on Depression in Young People for potential broadcast on BBC3. We are currently in the pre-production stage and are putting a taster tape together at the moment.

We are looking to meet with a wide variety of young people who have experienced depression and talk about the varying ways in which they are dealing with the illness. The film is focussed on people who have taken up adrenaline-fuelled activities (base-jumpers, trapeze artists for example). While we are especially keen to talk with people who encounter heights as part of their activity, we'd be grateful to talk with anyone who has adopted something challenging and who is happy to share their experiences. We of course respect the fact that some people may wish to remain anonymous and having a discussion does not mean they have to take part in the actual film itself.

The film's aim is to show the remarkable strength of extraordinary young people faced with depression in Britain today.

Please feel free to email me on fish2066@hotmail.com or call on 07754157398 if you would like to contribute or know of someone who would.

Many thanks for your time,

Alex

I'm not being flippant but how many people with depression want to partake in 'adrenalin fueled activities'?  I know I don't, I can barely muster the energy to do the simplest of things at present.  Of course there are people with mild depression who go for a jog as that helps but the last thing I would ever want to do would be jumping off things for fun, etc.  Why not a program that shows how depression wrecks lives so that viewers can spot the symptoms early in themselves or loved ones?

This idea is just wrong, from my point of view.

Beetzart - you are right. I can barely muster the strength and wherewithall to get to my front gate. I'm not sure that would be classed as adrenaline fuelled !
