MRI Studies in Depression
« on: March 01, 2012, 11:40:50 PM »
Lots of interesting MRI work on depression. Here are links to a couple. Personally I find I have an "Overfunctioning Amygdala" just as good as "chemical imbalance". But neither have the 100% genuine authentic flavour of "psychiatrically ill"

Sometimes the light is shining on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange, trip it's been

I found these 2 links very interesting.  I am a person that likes to understand what the ins and outs of illnesses are.  Whatever the condition may be.

Thanks for the links.

I am currently very busy so dont have time to read this until later. From my memory, doesnt an over functing amygdala mean you are more likely to perceive threats?

My recollection of the functions of the amygdala, and quite frankly I'm surprised I have any at all are that it has functions in:

Arousal
Fear Responses
Emotional Responses
Various Hormone Functions
Memory

I think you are probably right about perceived threats

For once the full text of the original article concerning the uncoupling of the hate circuit is available without payment. The link is below. Only for the very scientifically minded.
