hello everyone
« on: January 01, 2012, 05:06:28 PM »
Hello everyone,

Just wanted to say hi.   I have suffered from depression for several years.  Came off meds just over a year ago as I had been so well.  But now its back again, and to be honest I am scared.

Wanted to be able to chat with people that understand.

Hi and welcome :)

Its really awful to get hit with it again after a period of feeling well, have you been to see your GP yet?

Hi, going to make an apointment on Tuesday.  He is a very good dr. But its not easy trying to explain how you are feeling.  Hate going to the dr's for anything.  I also know from the past that medication takes a while to kick in.  I know I can't leave it.  Think I have been fighting it a while
just would not admit it had got hold of me again.  Spent yesterday in tears all day.

You're doing the right thing going to see your GP sooner rather than later, you'll find everyone here really friendly, understanding and helpful  :)

Hi Harry,

seems to tie in with when my hormones went all erratic.  Also had a previous marriage when I was very controlled. This time seems to be chronic pain I have had with slipped disc and problems with one of my sons.

It also runs in my family, with both my sister and brother suffering with depression.

My first bout of severe depression was about 5 years ago. Tried many different anti-depressants and then got referred to mental health team the Pdoc then put me on Duloxetine, which worked and as I was so well decided to come off.  I have been well for 2 years and now wham its back and I am scared stiff.

How about you what started yours off?

Hi, whatever  i've tried i've failed at and not had a support structure to help me (I don't want to tell my friends and family). I should take some sort of medication to help me cope but prefer talking but wouldn't know where (or how - i'm not very talkative) to begin.

Hi Harry,

I find it hard talking too, as I find it very hard to say in words just how I feel.  But talking does help, especially if you can talk to people that have been through or are suffering.  I am very lucky with my family they are very supportive.  I know its hard to tell people as I feel mental health problems still have a stigma attached to them. I remember when I was first diagnosed being terrified that my dil would not let me see my granddaughter, as I thought she would think I was crazy if I told her I was ill.  But it is an illness and we would take medication if we had other medical conditions.

Do you not have anyone who you feel you could confide in? Or try going to your gp for help and if you are not happy talking to your own gp ask to see someone else.

Nobody will judge you on here I am sure.  Just try and open up a little of how you are feeling.  We are all on this forum because we suffer in some way.

Take care
