Looking for any help ref medication
« on: September 15, 2009, 01:51:18 PM »
First off...i appologise if this is not in the right area, did have a look around and couldn't find a specific place just for meds.

A brief history.....This all is for my mother-in-law, shes 69 and for the past 3 years has been diagnosed with sever clinical depression.  In this time there has been no improvement in her mental health and it is only declining rapidly.  We are very rural and services are appaling!...she only has one appointment per month with her Psyc Dr and the rest is with the GP, she has councilling sessions with 'Mind' and that is all.  We have tried to get her into a private clinic as a in-patient but no-one will take her as she is older than 65!.  The big issue is all the medication she is taking and to no avail.  The poor women is so drugged up she can barely stand and has a constant 'fuzzy head'.....Is it normal to take this amount of medication?.....
Quetiapine 25mg 2 x pd
Pregabialine 25mg 2 x pd
Matazipine 45 mg x 1pd
Diazapine 2mg x 3pd
Tamazapine 10mg 1 per night and she has just come off Lorazapine
Venlafaxine 75mg 1 x pd

Hello and welcome.

I have no medical training my self, so I could not possibly even think to answer on the drugs them selves.  !???!
All I can think to say is try to get a second opinion from another doctor. If none are local, most or some will at least help via mail or net.
Also try NHS direct or ask at your local hospital. They may be able to clear any questions you have.  _)(

What i do know (from personal experience only!) that 2 of the drugs make you severely sleepy and rather… “high” (for lack of a better word)

Wish I could help more.
