i,m new here
« on: May 12, 2011, 06:46:51 AM »
hello. i,m 42 years old and i have suffered depression since my early teens, ive attempted suicide numerous times and been hospitalized countless times.but despite that i,m still here. i,m currently having cognitive behavior therapy. my therapist recommended some websites that may be helpful too me,and that it would be an idea to make contact with people who suffered with depression. so thats why i,m here. i,m tired of being depressed and feeling so bad about myself. i want to feel the sunshine ;)

Hi I'm new here too. Like you I am sick of feeling that I am no good to anyone. I too have been depressed for many years although not officially diagnosed as such. There is some comfort in knowing that you are not the only one going through this blackness and at least you can speak freely without someone thinking the worst of you.

I too have tried to end it all several times - cutting, overdose etc. Somehow I take myself near to the abyss but not quite into it. My family don't know that I have done this and I don't think that they would understand. That's really the reason why I came here, to find people like me and maybe help me out of this blackness.

hi. i know what its like. i have kept it from my family for years. partly to protect them, but also because i feel ashamed that i,m not as strong as other people. you dont have to be diagnosed to know you have depression.perhaps it might be an idea to drop hints to your family about how unhappy you are.

Hi seamie  :D

!"£ and I hope you are doing okay, just so you know Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is really good for depression, I did CBT on the computer and it really helped me so I hope it helps you too.

Basically it just makes you think about how you literally think about things while you're depressed. It's surprising how many negative thoughts you can have, and CBT helps you recognise these thoughts and gives you ideas on how to think more positively and to generally start coping and hopefully overcoming depression :) x

Hi Seamie,

I am also new here and realised I am not alone. So we will support each other.  ;)

I can tell you other method that worked for me in the past.
I tried CBT before and it was O.K but at the same time, I tried other things which I read it from book (dealing with depression in holistic way), including changing diet (cut down caffeine, sugar, stop drinking alcohol, take omega3 rich food, and plenty of fresh fruits and vege), walk or do some exercise (target was 30 min per day !), keep simple diary, and set simple, small but achievable goal every week. Book also showed me breathing exercise. You may laugh about this stuff but It worked out directly to your body and body /physical health influence to your mind. So, if nothing work so far, try them on. They are not expensive to do, and anybody can do it.
Best wishes,
 :)
