Need to Talk
« on: January 21, 2010, 10:03:47 AM »
Hi, I'm new to the Forum.

I don't really know where to start.

I have suffered from depression for about 15 years and been on anti-depressants for most of that time.

Just recently I have been suffering from a severe bout of depression. I feel so unhappy, flat and lack interest in life.  I'm unhappy at home (I'm married but no kids), I'm unhappy at work, I'm unhappy that I am overweight, I'm unhappy because I'm getting pressure to give up smoking from my other half and I'm finding it really difficult.

I'm on a waiting list to see a counseller but no one really understand me and I feel so alone.

To things that spring to mind that you can take control over.  Firstly over quitting smoking I can understand why your other half wants you to quit smoking putting pressure on you wont help the way you are feeling and you'll find it harder to quit.  My husband has recently stopped smoking for about the 4th time over a 16 year period.  After the first when I did nag I learnt not to as each time he has quit he has stayed off smoking longer each time.  You know when the time will be right and the desire to quit has to be because you want to quit for yourself.

Over being overweight so you enjoy doing things like swimming, sport, walking or have you tried going to a gym?  Try something to get yourself fit and eat sensibly such as grilled food instead of fried food or junk food.  The two combined will help you to lose weight at a sensible rate and that will help you to feel better in yourself.
